The Sue Atkins Weekly Parenting Affirmation
Posted by: Sue Atkins
Today I want you to do an exercise that I do with the parents I work with 1-2-1.
Imagine that you are in a very fast sports car and that you are driving away from challenging, painful or embarrassing things in your life at great speed leaving them behind. As you go further and further away, the memories and experiences are getting smaller and smaller as they are so far behind you in the distance.
Take a few minutes to gather all the learning from those experiences and the wisdom. Respect what you have gone through and what brought it about and release and let go of the rest.
Imagine you are on a beautiful beach.
Draw a line in the sand with a large stick.
Now see yourself at a threshold – entering new phase of your life.
It’s your future.
Everything you want to do, have and be starts now!
Step across the line in the sand and see great things happening in front of your eyes.
Really see in great detail all the things you want to happen.
Really hear specifically the laughter, the joy, perhaps hear people saying lovely things to you and smile.
Really enjoy all the wonderful feelings you feel when you are relaxed, confident and happy with your life.
Enjoy yourself being happy and healthy.
You are on top of the world.
You are holding your future in your own hands.
Make the right choices – the ones that feel good.
You can’t do anything wrong.
You can replace what was and establish what is to be just the way you want it.
Now say to yourself throughout today and while you are looking in the mirror brushing your teeth…
I am at the end of my past and at the beginning of my future.
