Siblings’ early days together are the building blocks for a long-term bonding process. Every child will react differently, so here are a few top tips to help promote positive sibling interactions.
Tip 9. Talk & Teach. You can take advantage of your toddler’s natural fascination with babies by explaining what you imagine the baby is thinking, such as “When Sophie grabs you and holds on tight, she is telling you how much she loves you.”
These can make your toddler laugh and help them see their sibling as a real person and one who loves them.
Encourage your older child to get involved in looking after their new brother and sister, playing gently with them, talking to them and smiling at them – it will build a bond that will last a lifetime.
