I enjoy Janet Street Porter for a challenging viewpoint on things. Today I read her thoughts on divorce, uncoupling and marriage.
She wrote ‘Marriage is a practical solution to bringing up kids and finding companionship, but if it doesn’t work out, don’t beat yourself up.
Why we pretend that one version of marriage will suit everyone, I can’t imagine.’
Janet has been married and divorced 4 times and I must say I have found the whole divorce process to be pretty harrowing, but are her views weighted because she hasn’t had children to bring up?
I do find myself pondering whether we will have 3 significant relationships as we find ourselves living into our 90’s as a matter of course and may find our first major love not able to last 40 – 50 years.
A couple of days ago I spent time with my great friend’s Mum who was happily married for over 50 years and they brought up 7 children. I envied the wonderful bond she had and I know she misses him every single day since he passed away.
We’d all like the happy ever after wouldn’t we…. but is it realistic ?
Read what Janet had to say here and let me know your thoughts.
