How was your day?

It was 2.30 am and I couldn’t sleep on holiday recently, so I got up and started to write a blog on the veranda. A couple walked by, a little worse for wear on the delicious happy hour fruit cocktails.

The man looked up at me and said in a rather too loud whisper to his partner, “Gosh, isn’t that sad? She’s still on her computer at this hour – she can’t tear herself away even on holiday.”

But what the man didn’t really realise was that I LOVE my work – it’s my passion, it’s my privilege and it’s my pleasure.

I don’t need to take 2 weeks off to forget my working life – I am blessed to have a job where I make a difference, I empower people to be the best they can be.

Perhaps the happy hour man has a job where he needs to escape for 2 weeks because he hates the other 50 weeks of his year.

Life is too short to be unhappy and stressed and trapped in your job.

People have to deliberately manage their work-life balance – it doesn’t just happen by accident.

People have to choose or change their career path so that it stimulates, challenges and pays them well.

People have to deliberately step out of the mediocre and do meaningful work so that they don’t have to escape for a measly 2 weeks a year from a life that clearly is making them stressed, unhappy and unfulfilled.
