Interview With Vicki Dawson – Sleep Charity
Vicki Dawson CEO & Founder of The Sleep Charity a growing, national charity. She is on the Board of the British Paediatric Sleep Association and is also a member of the British Sleep Society. She was recently awarded an “Outstanding Leadership Award’ from the Duke of York Community Initiative which she’s extremely proud of.
Vicki also produces The Children’s Sleep Charity’s training materials in partnership with a range of sleep experts. She creates a number of accredited training packages for school staff and a 3 day course for people who’d like to train to become sleep practitioners.
She has produced numerous sleep publications including material for The Sleep Council, Contact a Family and government materials. She co-wrote ‘Sleep and Your Special Needs Child’ with Antonia Chitty which was published last year.
She is currently involved in a number of research projects around sleep with teams from universities across the country including York University’s Social Research Unit and Hull University. She appears regularly in the media talking about sleep which has included Chris Evans Breakfast Show, BBC1, Daily Mail, Sunday Express, Radio 4 Women’s Hour, Radio 5 Live and numerous parenting magazines and publications.
Her background is in teaching, & she has spent many years working with children with additional needs. She has produced training for numerous leading organisations including Scope and Relate. She firmly believes in partnerships working and welcome hearing from others who are passionate about supporting families and the emotional, physical and mental well-being of children.
Vicki has published 11 books and has written training material for Relate in order to train counsellors to work effectively with parents of children with additional needs.
