The Little Paws Hotel: Olive by Clare Luther

Olive tells the story about a miniature dachshund who needs looking after for the day and is booked into The Little Paws Hotel. She is worried about her owner not being there but soon realises, with help from her friends, that she can get through the challenges she faces.  There are three questions at the back to help the young reader reflect on the story and draw on their own experiences.

Young children struggle to talk about big emotions that are part of their everyday life.

These beautifully illustrated rhyming children’s books are relatable and well researched; each story helps children to explore their thoughts and feelings, offering them useful ways to think their emotions through and get conversations started.

Aimed at children 3 – 8 years old.

Clare Luther is a children’s author, mum of two and runs a dachshund hotel in their family home in London with her two children, husband and smooth haired daschund, Wotsit.

Clare writes relatable rhyming stories for 3-8 year olds, beautifully illustrated by Maria Floyd, about tricky emotions. Many children struggle to express themselves or talk about their thoughts and feelings, so her gentle stories aim to get these important conversations started. The Little Paws Hotel is a series of five stories told through the eyes of different breeds of dogs that address sensitive issues such as separation anxiety, fear of new experiences, perfectionism, being bullied and being the bully.

Clare loves to create stories that encourage young children to become more confident at recognising their emotions and exploring ways of how to work through them. She shares her books with primary school children by visiting schools and running interactive, engaging workshops.

Inspiration for Clare’s writing comes from being a mum of two, her previous careers as a health professional and running her dachshund hotel, ‘The Little Paws Hotel’.
