Having a new baby is very exciting but your older child may worry about what all the changes may mean to them as for the last year or two they have probably been the centre of your universe so it’s a good idea to prepare them for this exciting new arrival.

Sibling Showdown & Meltdown !

Even if you do everything I’ve just suggested, your child will still act up at times. These problems are a normal part of becoming an older sibling. Here’s how to tackle them:

Tip 17 Be sympathetic. It’s natural that your child will have some negative feelings toward the new baby. Encourage your child to express their negative, as well as positive, feelings. Give them an empathetic starter, such as: “Sometimes I bet you like your baby sister and sometimes you don’t.” Don’t push, just be available. Your child may be more comfortable drawing what he or she feels or may open up when they are in the bath or at story time so just be mindful and available when they want to talk.
