Sleeping Walking or Day Dreaming? 7 Successful Strategies for a Happier Family Life in 2024

Did you know that 95% of the people who set New Year’s resolutions never follow through?

The reason is that most people don’t understand the process of how to produce lasting results- and they never take the first steps.

They start full of good intentions but through their own negative voices in their heads they find that their willpower flags and they find themselves back to old habits.

Most people make New Year’s resolutions that they can’t keep as they don’t take small bite sized steps every day, every week or every month towards them – because they don’t create enough momentum around wanting them REALLY badly enough.

Also they don’t surround themselves with like minded people who support, encourage and cheerlead for them when they slow down, stall or stop.

I learnt on my training with Paul McKenna that the power of your imagination is far more motivating than just your willpower, and that’s why I always tap into my parent’s imaginations first when I’m coaching.

Here’s a famous quote by Albert Einstein that I find it makes all the difference to the success of all the parents I work with.

Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life’s coming attractions.

I always do this exercise myself between Christmas and the New Year as it seems a natural time to ponder and reflect on the last year and a great opportunity to plan  a really exciting, positive future – driving forward NOT Looking in the rear view mirror !

This year you can be different!

The following process is part of one that I use with the parents I coach at the beginning of our sessions together, as it creates momentum.

Here’s just a taste of how to get started and create the momentum that will drive you on and keep you motivated to follow through in the coming weeks and months.

By doing this exercise, you will gain clarity about where you’ve been, where you are now, and where you want to go.

It will also help you create a simple plan to set up your new year so that it truly compels, excites and drives you.

But to create lasting success and support get yourself a great coach, as I have found having my own personal coach to be brilliant and highly motivating, as Nancy believes in me, champions me and holds me accountable to my own dreams and helps me to turn my dreams into goals with a date.

The 7 simple steps you need are to:

1. Get Clear.

2. Get Certain.

3. Get Excited.

4. Get Focused.

5. Get Committed.

6. Get Momentum.

7. Get Smart.

So grab a cup of coffee and a piece of paper and a pen…… and getting jotting, creating and having some fun being curious about what’d you like to do, be or achieve with your family this year.

Why not take a few minutes out now to think about what has happened to you in the last year.

Rewind the clock back to January 2023 where were you, what were you doing and what were you aspiring to be, do or have?

What challenges have you faced?

And what lessons did you learn from those challenges?

What have been the highlights and life time memories you will take from the last year?

What has been challenging and that you DON’T want to happen again?

And what bad stuff has happened – and how did you cope and more importantly, what did you learn?

Do you recognise any recurring patterns, recurring situations or recurring problems that you need to address?

What actions do you need to take to prevent these situations repeating themselves again this year?

How have you grown or improved over the last 12 months?

Have your goals changed or remained the same?

What are you most proud of?

What would you like to do more of?

What would you like to do less of?

When you have achieved something that you set for yourself what steps did you take? Break down your success strategy and really be specific so you can do it AGAIN !!

Who can support you through the tough times, the challenges and the road blocks you’ll inevitably encounter?

Who will encourage you on and believe in you this year without judgement or criticism?

Spending a little time reviewing the last year of your family life can prevent you sleep walking through life and waking up at some time in the future with regrets for not achieving all the stuff you always promised yourself you’d do, be, have or achieve with your kids.

Also you’ll be a FANTASTIC role model for your kids ….. as you will be more motivated, positive and enthusiast and committed.

What a gift !

Have fun and let me know what you come up with by posting up on my blog …… as it can make all the difference to your success by telling someone about it, as it holds you more accountable and committed to the outcome!

Here’s to your fantastic 2024 – make it magical, build positive and happy memories that last a lifetime, and have lots more fun and laughter !
